GEOLOGY/STRATIGRAPHY & MINERAL EXPLORATION DEPARTMENT
The
scope of activities in this department involve:
- Regional Mapping and Preparation of Geological
Maps
- Mineral Resources Exploration, Prospecting and
Evaluation
- Reserve Estimate Core Drilling
- Mines Development
- Sourcing of Mineral Raw Materials for Industries
- Stratigraphic Studies for Hydrocarbon Investigations.
The
company has been involved in the regional
geological mapping programs leading to the
preparation of standard geological maps
for mineral exploration, stratigraphical
studies for hydrocarbon and other mineral
exploration activities.
The
company has carried out extensive mapping
and mineral exploration in the Benue Valley
of Nigeria covering minerals like Barytes,
Lead, Zinc, Salt/Evaporites, Gypsum, Trona,
Limestone, Glass sand etc.
During
this period, the company has mapped parts
of the Gongola basin covering the AshakaCem
area on 1:20,000 and proven over 25 million
tons reserve of limestone (to last the company
over 25 years) and over 50 million tons
of gypsum. These are basic raw materials
required for making cement. Check

Geological
Mapping
MECON
has also carried out extensive core drilling
operations for limestone prospect and
evaluation for AshakaCem Plc, Lafarge
Cement WAPCO Nig. Plc, Dangote Cement
Plc, United Cement Company of Nig. Ltd.
(UNICEM), WestCom (Magen Roy Cement),
etc.

The company has been a Raw Materials consultant
to Ashaka Cement Company Plc for many years.
MECON
has successfully carried out the identification,
mapping and detailed core drilling exploration
of a viable coal field in Maiganga, Gombe
State, Nigeria for AshakaCem Plc.

MECON
also carried out a mineral survey of Nasarawa
State, including drilling and assessment
of the Brine fields in the state.

In
addition, MECON Geology and Engineering Services
Ltd was a consultant to Mobil Producing Nigeria
Unlimited and Chevron Nigeria Ltd, both major
oil exploration companies interested or involved
in hydrocarbon (petroleum) exploration activity
in the Benue valley. MECON carried out, for
Chevron Petroleum Nig. Ltd., extensive geological
mapping program of the Chevron OPLs in the
Benue Valley on 1:50,000 scale. |
